At its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2025, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S25 and S25+, as well as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Among the announcements were a number of AI innovations introduced with One UI 7 running Android 15. But the question remains: will these new features extend to previous Galaxy models, like the S24 or Z Flip 6?
The Galaxy S25’s new AI features
Most of our hands-on with the new Galaxy S25s centered around the software updates that Samsung showed off. Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones feature deep AI integration, made possible by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which includes a dedicated AI unit. Notable features include the Personal Data Engine, designed to create a personalized AI model on each device. There is also the Now Brief application, which adapts the information displayed according to the user's habits and context.
These tools allow the phone to anticipate the needs of its owner. For example, the “Now Brief” feature can show reminders, weather information, news, or suggestions based on your calendar or work location. Options like planning a commute or creating a birthday card showcased the capabilities of this AI, which is designed to learn over time.
Samsung dodges availability on older devices
Samsung is being cautious about whether these new features will be compatible with older devices. A company spokesperson told TechRadar that Samsung is “currently evaluating which features will be available on which devices.” While there is no doubt that One UI 7 will arrive on the Galaxy S24, will they benefit from all the new features of the S25?
The integration of certain features, such as Gemini, could easily arrive on other devices thanks to software updates. On the other hand, tools like the Personal Data Engine seem to be dependent on the Galaxy S25’s advanced hardware, including 12GB of RAM, which would limit their adoption on older models (the Galaxy S24 or Galaxy Z Flip 5, for example, “only” have 8GB of RAM).
Finally, Samsung has a solid reputation for updating its AI features. Tools like advanced photo editing, which allows you to remove background elements, could thus be deployed on other Galaxy devices, although no official announcement has been made yet. More information is now expected on the rollout schedule for One UI 7 on other Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
