There are some application updates that we look forward to more than others. The one concerning the future feature coming to PowerToys is clearly one of them. Microsoft's great toolkit is indeed going to integrate a new feature into one of its tools. PowerToys Run, the quick launcher integrated into PowerToys, is going to benefit from one of its most important updates.
Winget soon integrated into PowerToys Run
If you are not a Winget connoisseur, just keep in mind that it is a tool integrated into Windows that allows you to quickly launch the download and installation of applications on your PC.
But until now, the use of Winget was rather reserved for an informed public. And for good reason, the utility runs in the Terminal using command lines. But things should change very quickly, and Winget could soon become your best friend. Because Microsoft has clearly planned to integrate it directly into PowerToys Run, the quick launcher for PowerToys. And it was Kayla Cinnamon, Senior Product Manager in charge of Microsoft PowerToys, who announced the good news on her Bluesky account, with a very promising demonstration video.
Concretely, this means that Winget now has a graphical interface. By running PowerToys Run, you will soon be able to directly search for a Winget package and launch its installation in one click. All without having to enter a single command line. This not only simplifies the use of Winget, but above all, it now allows you to download and install applications very simply, without even having to open a web browser.
While the arrival of a user interface for Winget via PowerToys is more than welcome, this is not the first initiative to do so. Well before Microsoft, independent developers have looked into the subject. This is the case, for example, of UniGetUI, a free and open source utility available for download on Github and on the Microsoft Store.
