Xiaomi Redmi Note 14: extended Android updates, but not for all models

The Redmi Note 14 comes in two versions, 4G and 5G. According to information obtained by GSMArena directly from the brand, Redmi has decided to grant extended software support to the 4G model, but not to the 5G model. A surprising choice that is difficult to explain.

Extended software support for the Redmi Note 14 4G, but not the 5G version

Thus, Redmi announces that the 4G model of the Redmi Note 14 will receive six years of security updates as well as four major Android updates. Launched under Android 14, it will therefore reach Android 18, expected in 2027. This new update policy seems to be influenced by Samsung's strategy, which now offers extended support even on its entry-level models like the Galaxy A16.

Unlike the 4G version, the Redmi Note 14 5G will benefit from more limited support. This model will only receive two major Android updates and four years of security updates. Equipped with Android 14 upon release, it will therefore stop at Android 16, which should be available next June. However, as is often the case with mid-range smartphones, this update could take several months before being deployed on the device.

This difference in treatment between the two versions of the Redmi Note 14 raises questions, especially since the company has not specified the reasons for this gap. The two models do not have the same chip (Mediatek Dimensity 7025 Ultra for the 5G version and Mediatek Helio G99 Ultra for the 4G version), but this minimal difference is not enough to explain this strange choice on the part of Redmi. While the extension of software support for the 4G model is good news, many users would have undoubtedly appreciated a similar policy for the 5G variant.
