Four years ago, at the end of 2020, just after the release of the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft announced that xCloud (Xbox Cloud Gaming) would allow streaming games that are not part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog. Unfortunately, this feature is still not available today. But apparently, it's just a matter of time!
Xcloud is gaining momentum
It will soon be possible to play all of your Xbox games, anywhere, on a multitude of devices, whenever you want. Starting in November, Microsoft will begin testing the Cloud with games that are not in the Xbox Game Pass catalog. The goal will be to allow insider members to play and stream these games and detect some bugs in order to prepare a final version.
Until now, xCloud was reserved for Game Pass games. Thus, the tests will allow you to play games like Baldur’s Gate III, Red Dead Redemption II, Grand Theft Auto V or Elden Ring as long as you have them in your library, even if they are not in Game Pass.
So of course, not all games will be accessible, this may happen gradually. Similarly, we do not know at this time which games will be included in the tests next month. There are still high hopes that in time, a large part of players' digital games will be accessible on their mobile Cloud devices, their laptops and their game consoles from as long as they have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Announced at the end of 2020, Cloud games outside of Game Pass were finally postponed to end of 2022. Before being once again postponed to an undetermined date. It seems that this time, it is the right one with the launch of tests in November 2024. There is a good chance that this functionality will be deployed from 2025.
