The outcome is getting closer and closer for the Switch 2. In less than ten days now, Nintendo will organize a Nintendo Direct to reveal to us, without doubt, all the information with the release date, the price, the first games and the specifications of the console.
After the numerous leaks At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, with the leak of the machine's design, we learned new things about the screen.
The first big disappointment is knowing that the Switch2 should, once again, offer an LCD screen and skip OLED. On the other hand, the nice surprise is that the console would offer a frame rate of 120Hz with HDR.
Switch2: VRR, HDR and 120Hz for the screen?
First of all, it is important to note that what follows is to take with a grain of salt. Unlike the rumors of recent weeks, these are not coming from reputable journalists and industry insiders with proven track records.
These rumors come from user Secretboy of the Famiiboards forum on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit. The latter had, however, revealed correct details about the console's GPU before the leaks in January. But again, this information has still not been confirmed.
Secretboy announces that the Switch2 should benefit from an LCD screen. Nintendo is once again abandoning the sublime OLED screen (present on the Nintendo Switch OLED of 2021), to return to the LCD screen of the first Switch of 2017. This choice was apparently made for cost reasons (a little thought for the PS VITA, in 2012, which already offered a very beautiful OLED screen).
This screen of the Switch2 would be compatible with VRR, HDR and would allow a frequency of 120Hz. Thanks to this, the Switch2 could offer better performance with a fluidity improved and games that can run at 40 FPS. Games would also have better responsiveness thanks to the variable refresh rate.
Tune in on April 2nd at 3pm to discover the Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch2, to get all the official information on this new console.
