A few days ago, Samsung released a firmware update for its HW-Q990D soundbar. It was a bad move: reports from dissatisfied users have been flooding on social media, and not just in the United States. Customers of the high-end device worldwide are complaining that the soundbar no longer responds to commands and is no longer accessible in Samsung's SmartThings app.
Software issue, hardware solution
Some owners of the HW-Q800D and HW-S801D models have also reported similar issues. The culprit is therefore this update numbered 1020.7, which unfortunately installs automatically. If you happen to own such a model and it hasn't started If you're still unsure about the latest updates, it's best to disable automatic updates for now. Conventional solutions like restoring factory settings are of no help.
A few days ago, Samsung stated that it was investigating the rather annoying bug, and the manufacturer is now offering a solution. Unfortunately, it will take some effort since it's not a simple patch sent over the internet: you'll have to have the soundbar repaired. Of course, the operation is free and offered to all affected units, even out of warranty.
But the fact remains that a hardware repair will be necessary for a software problem. Not so simple when you are far from the nearest repairer.
