No need to introduce Back to the Future. This cult saga from the 80s remains a true monument of pop culture that has rocked thousands of fans around the world over the years. It remains one of the rare legendary licenses that have never been destroyed (for the moment) by sequels, reboots or failed adaptations into series. Even in video games, it has had very few adaptations and ports.
The latest one remains the series from Telltale Games in 2010 which remains a correct adaptation with an episodic game in five parts. We learned today that a new video game project is indeed under development.
Zeus, Back to the Future is back as a video game!
A few hours ago, Bob Gale, the co-creator of Back to the Future gave an interview to the site cleveland.com. It was during this interview that the latter confirmed, in the greatest calm, the production of a new video game centered on the legendary saga: "We have a chance to have a new video game based on Back to the Future. I don’t want to tell you more because I’m not allowed to, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Touch wood that it will happen. Of course, 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the original film. We have a few events planned, and a documentary about the making of the musical is currently in post-production.”
For now, that’s unfortunately what we’ll have to do. It’s unclear whether it’s a big project, a game for consoles and PC or for mobile. But Bob Gale seems excited and most importantly, it seems to be a long-standing project that he has always wanted to implement. We hope to learn more quickly, perhaps even this year for the 40th anniversary of the license.
