If Twitch seems less lively than usual today, that's normal. This Wednesday, September 1st, many streamers decided to protest against the toxicity and hatred they regularly experience online. Led by Rek It Raven, LuciaEverBlack, and Shineypen, the movement invites all content creators on the platform to protest against Twitch's inaction in the face of the violent, sexist or racist behavior they face on a daily basis. As its name suggests, the #ADayOffTwitch has consisted since this morning of not streaming, in order to raise awareness among viewers, but especially Twitch, about the fight against hate raids.

Twitch isn't doing enough
At the origin of this movement initiated about ten days ago, Twitch's statements of August 11, in which the platform committed to take some measures to fight trolls and toxic comments more effectively. For many, this initiative is considered insufficient, at a time when Twitch is regularly singled out for its double-speed moderation. It must be said that if online hatred has always existed — particularly on this type of platform, — the phenomenon has recently increased with the proliferation of bots, capable of launching real waves of hate in the chat of a content creator.
As a reminder, this is not the first time that such a demonstration has been organized by the platform's streamers. In June 2020, the #TwitchBlackOut had already attempted a similar initiative. If the movement does not have unanimous support among the main stakeholders, everyone seems to agree on one point: Twitch must act quickly in its fight against hate raids.
