Apple's foldable iPhone: an overpriced luxury against the Galaxy Z Fold 7?

Get ready to break the bank, Apple fans! The upcoming foldable iPhone could cost more than we thought. While Samsung has been folding its smartphones for years, the Apple company is preparing its response... gold price.

Apple's foldable iPhone: an overpriced luxury against the Galaxy Z Fold 7?

According to the latest information, Apple's first foldable smartphone could be released between late 2026 and early 2027, marking Apple's late but anticipated entry into the foldable device market. However, what's getting the most buzz is its potential price, which could reach unprecedented heights for an iPhone.

According to a research note from analyst Tim Long of Barclays, relayed by MacRumors, the first foldable iPhone could start at $2,300 in the United States. A price that would make it by far the most expensive iPhone ever released, far exceeding the price of the current iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199.

An ultra-premium positioning that raises questions

This price estimate, based on discussions with hardware manufacturers in Asia, raises several questions. Is Apple seeking to position itself in an ultra-premium segment to stand out from the competition? And above all, what advances would justify such a price? Rumors suggest a 7.8-inch inner screen, a 5.5-inch outer screen, and a thickness reduced to 4.5 mm when unfolded.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, renowned for his Apple predictions, confirms this price range, estimating that the foldable iPhone would be between $2,000 and $2,500. He adds that despite this price, demand could be strong if the quality is there, especially with a screen without visible creases.

Faced with this strategy, the comparison with Samsung is inevitable. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, the latest iteration of the pioneer of foldable smartphones, is offered at $1,900. Although this price remains high, it is the result of several years of evolution and improvement of foldable technology.

Apple therefore seems to be taking the gamble of an even more high-end positioning, perhaps by banking on major innovations to justify this additional cost. Moreover, don't forget that its price in France should be even higher, probably around 3,000 euros if the prices mentioned by analysts are confirmed.
