Asus surprises the computer peripherals market with the launch of a new product: the Asus Fragrance Mouse MD101. This original device integrates a compartment intended to accommodate essential oils, thus allowing a pleasant fragrance to be diffused in the user's workspace.
The new Asus Fragrance Mouse MD101, a hybrid mouse available in iridescent white and pink clay, offers wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Featuring PTFE pads for smooth gliding, it offers three adjustable DPI levels (1200, 1600, and 2400) to accommodate different screen resolutions. Asus also touts the durability of its product, with switches designed to withstand 10 million clicks. So far, everything indicates that this is a mouse like any other.
However, the real highlight of this mouse is its perfume compartment located on the bottom of the device, just behind the AA battery compartment. This semi-translucent reservoir can accommodate different aromatic oils, thus offering a customizable olfactory experience. However, Asus recommends avoiding the use of 100% pure essential oils, recommending instead oils designed for reed or ultrasonic diffusers.
A scent trend in the technological world
This initiative by Asus is part of a broader trend aimed at integrating sensory experiences into technological products. The brand had already explored this concept the previous year with a laptop equipped with an integrated scent diffuser in the center of the screen. Motorola is also fond of this strategy with its smartphones with scented boxes that actually make the unboxing experience more interesting.
The Fragrance Mouse MD101 also stands out for its versatility. In addition to its aromatic features, it offers an impressive battery life of up to a year on a single AA battery. Its ergonomic design includes a slightly curved thumb rest for optimal comfort during extended use.
Although the price and availability date have not yet been announced, we can say that this mouse is already arousing curiosity. It also raises interesting questions about the evolution of computing devices and their integration into our everyday sensory environment. It remains to be seen whether this innovative approach will find its audience and whether other manufacturers will follow Asus in this olfactory path.
