Avengers Secret Wars: These characters must at all costs make an appearance in the next Marvel blockbuster

Avengers Secret Wars: These characters must at all costs make an appearance in the next Marvel blockbuster

Avengers Secret War isn't expected on the big screen until May 2027, but we already know that the Russo brothers' next blockbuster intends to push the principle of the multiverse to its paroxysm. Faced with the avalanche of cameos to be expected, here is our selection of the characters we would like to see on screen.

Apart from Steven Spielberg's wonderful Ready Player One, cameos clearly remain the preserve of MCU films. Avengers Endgame had already set the bar high, but Spider-Man No Way Home went even further by basing a large part of its plot on the return of old MCU figures.

We obviously think of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, but also Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus.

But that was without counting Ryan Reynolds who literally blew all the cameo counters in Deadpool & Wolverine last July, here are a few of them (beware of spoilers):

  • Chris Evan's Human Torch (Fantastic Four, 2005)
  • Wesley Snipes' Blade (Blade, 1998)
  • Jennifer Garner's Elektra (Daredevil, 2003)
  • Channing Tatum's Gambit (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 2009)
  • Dafne Keen's X-23 (Logan, 2017)
  • Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan (the Iron Man and Spider-Man films)
  • Tyler Man's Sabretooth (X-Men, 2000)
  • Aaron Stanford's Pyro (X-Men 2, 2003)
  • Henry Cavill as Wolverine

By extension, we imagine that Avengers Secret Wars will also have its fair share of appearances. For good reason, the Russo brothers' next blockbuster, expected in theaters in May 2027, already aims to push the principle of the multiverse to its paroxysm. In fact, many Marvel characters should appear on screen to fully exploit the possibilities offered by this famous principle of parallel universes.

The Marvel characters we'd like to see in Avengers Secret Wars

As a result, we had fun listing the characters we'd like to see say hello (or make a big appearance, who knows) in the future Avengers big event. While some are already known to the general public thanks to previous appearances in Marvel films, others are more confidential and are mainly known to die-hard comic book fans.

Professor Xavier

We obviously start with one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel universe and the charismatic leader of the X-Men, Professor Xavier. Played for many years by the legendary Patrick Stewart, the character has already made several notable appearances in the MCU, notably in Logan of course, but especially in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. And while Xavier suffered a disastrous fate in the two films mentioned, we already know that Marvel intends to reintegrate the X-Men into its cinematic universe. In Secret Wars and its multitude of parallel universes, it seems obvious to us that Xavier will be present, whether in the guise of Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy.

Tornado and its different versions

We already mentioned it in a previous article, but in our opinion, another major X-Men character should make a big comeback in Secret Wars: Ororo Munroe aka Storm. Brilliantly portrayed by Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry in the first X-Men films, the character has always been relegated to the role of sidekick. And what a mistake in our eyes! Storm has a particularly rich history in the comics: leader of the X-Men after the departure of Cyclops, ally of the Fantastic Four, wife of King T'Challa aka Black Panther, member of the council of Krakoa (editor's note: the mutant nation), etc. So many versions that Marvel could use to finally give a leading role to Storm in the MCU.

Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man

After reintroducing Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man in No Way Home, we think there's a good chance we'll see both actors again in Secret Wars. Especially since recent rumors suggest Tom Holland's Spider-Man will be central to the plot of the next Avengers. Who knows, Spider-Man might find these two counterparts to help him in the looming multiversal conflict.

Madame Web

In the disastrous Madame Web released in 2024, Cassandra Web (Dakota Johnson) does not play Madame Web only in brief glimpses of the future. A big waste, then, given that the character is nevertheless very popular with comic book fans. Born blind in Salem, Cassandra quickly developed powerful psychic abilities and has repeatedly aided Spider-Man in his fight against New York crime. In Secret Wars, the Russo brothers would therefore have the opportunity to restore the character's reputation... While giving Dakota Johnson a second chance.

David Haller/Legion

Here's another mutant we'd love to see in Secret Wars. David Haller aka Legion, is none other than the son of Professor Xavier. A victim of intense schizophrenic syndrome, the mutant is inhabited by multiple personalities, each of which controls one of his powers (telekinesis, telepathy, pyrokinesis). Remember that Legion already had its own dedicated series with Dan Stevens in the title role. In other words, the actor could well reprise his role for Secret Wars, even if it's just for a brief appearance. After all, the MCU is clearly looking to exploit all the mutant-related media released in recent years.

The first Fantastic 4 team-up

As you may know, the Fantastic 4 will officially enter the MCU with a reboot expected in theaters this July 25: Fantastic 4: First Step. And who says reboot necessarily says new casting. This time, we will notably find in the skin of our heroes the omnipresent Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (The Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).

If their presence in Secret Wars is guaranteed, we imagine that the Multiverse would allow us to see the original team from the first two films released 20 years ago. Especially since Chris Evans has already donned the costume of the Torch again for a hilarious cameo in Deadpool 3!

Matt Salinger's Captain America

If we're going to fully exploit the principle of the Multiverse, why not go looking for the very first versions of our favorite superheroes? You should know that in the 90s, Marvel was forced to sell the film rights to several heroes to stay afloat. Which resulted in the creation of a multitude of more or less failed films, like 1990's Captain America. Directed by Albert Pyun, this first iteration of Steve Rogers on the big screen was long considered one of the worst superhero movies ever made.

But in late 2024, the original version of the film had a notable re-release and rather won audience sympathy for its unabashedly cheesy side. Therefore, its actor Matt Salinger (now 65 years old) could perhaps make a brief cameo in the cheap costume from the 1990 film? I don't know about you, but we're interested!

And you, which character would you like to see in Avengers Secret Wars? We're curious to know, so tell us all about it in the comments!
