Bad news for Ryanair passengers

Bad news for Ryanair passengers

Ryanair has just launched a new offensive to reduce its operating costs. The low-cost airline has updated its general terms and conditions of use. Spotted by the media outlet Dublin Live, this discreet change now provides for a 100 euro fine for customers who arrive at the airport less than 40 minutes before their flight. The objective: to ensure just-in-time operations by limiting delays attributable to absent-minded passengers.

In the airline's new T&Cs, Article 6 now reads: “Your checked baggage must be deposited at the baggage drop-off counter no later than 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Baggage drop-off counters open two hours before the scheduled departure time. Check-in counters close strictly 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time, unless otherwise notified before the flight departs.“.

What is charged (among other things)

  • Cabin baggage: 20 to 60€
  • Hold baggage: 10 to 60€ up to 20 kg, then 13€ per additional kg
  • Missed departure fee: 100€

Fees in case of delay and missed flight

As is regularly the case with low-cost airlines, there are numerous additional fees in the event of options or changes in travel arrangements. In addition to charging for each piece of cabin and hold baggage, route changes, and logistics, there are missed departure fees that are added to the bill. Specifically, passengers arriving 40 minutes before their flight's departure, and up to one hour after takeoff, will be charged the same fee of €100. More than ever, it is advisable to arrive two hours before your flight to avoid any inconvenience.

Also remember that the airline is preparing to put an end to paper boarding passes. Like many others, Ryanair is now inviting its customers to opt for a paperless ticket from their smartphone. The process is free, while printing a physical ticket at the airport will cost you €55. A simple formality for the 80% of passengers who already rely on digital cards, which are more practical and more environmentally friendly.
