Bad news if you use Waze on iPhone

The Waze app on iOS has been suffering from problems with the integration of Google Assistant for many months. After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the situation, the developers have decided to throw in the towel. To avoid offering a broken feature that could lead to user frustration, they have decided to completely remove Google Assistant support for Waze on iPhone.

“As many of you have probably noticed, Google Assistant on Waze iOS has not been working as expected for over a year, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,”, explains Waze on its forum. “Rather than simply fixing a feature which is experiencing ongoing difficulties, we have decided to phase out the Google Assistant on iOS starting tomorrow and replace it with an improved voice interaction solution in the near future,” it added.

Waze is unable to fix the Google Assistant bug on iPhone

Waze says it will keep users informed of the progress of this project, but we don’t know more at this time. Google Assistant could be replaced by Gemini, as Google is slowly but surely looking to replace the former with the latter. It is not specified when we can expect see a replacement for Google Assistant arrive.

According to reports from Waze users on iPhone, Google Assistant tended to ignore requests submitted to it, even though it seemed to hear them after pressing the microphone icon corresponding to the activation of voice commands. In the end, trying to use Google Assistant was more often a waste of time than a gain, hence its removal from the app on iOS.

Waze specifies that Google Assistant remains operational as usual on Android, “where it has always worked reliably”. Recently, Waze encountered another bug on Android Auto, concerning the adjustment of the volume of navigation instructions and that of other audio sources.
