Despite the controversies, Assassin’s Creed Shadow exceeds 2 million players in 2 days

Ubisoft has gone all out with its latest game. Assassin's Creed Shadows, long-awaited by fans of the franchise that began in 2007, has had a hectic development. As a reminder, the game takes place in 16th-century Japan and invites you to play one of two characters, with the option to alternate between the samurai Yasuke and the kunoichi Naoe. The announcement of the former alone sparked controversy months before the game's release.

The publisher didn't give in to pressure, but perhaps it could have chosen a release date other than March 20, marking 30 years since a deadly terrorist attack in Japan. In any case, the game is available. As far as we're concerned, it didn't really excite us, as you can read in our review. What about the rest of the world? If we are to believe the figures announced by Ubisoft, the success is largely there.

Assassin's Creed Shadows surpasses 2 million players 2 days after its release

After crossing the 1 million player mark in less than 24 hours after its release on March 20, 2025, Assassin's Creed Shadows surpassed the 2 million player mark on March 22. The number includes all forms of access to Assassin's Creed Shadows, whether through direct purchase of the game or by subscribing to the Ubisoft+ service, for example.

Ubisoft indicates that their game has now outperformed Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey at their launch, knowing that unlike Shadows, these two installments were not available on Ubisoft+ at release. On SteamDB, the latest in the series is leading the "popular releases" chart at the time of writing, with around 50,000 players ahead of the second-placed game.

However, no sales figures have been confirmed yet. This is still an encouraging situation for the publisher, especially after the failures of titles it was counting on, such as Star Wars Outlaw.
