You may have noticed that profiles now include specific information about your daily activities, whether they’re gaming or not.
Three days ago, the online chat platform rolled out new social features that won’t please everyone. While there was already activity tracking that users could use at will, it’s become much more invasive with this latest update. Before you get caught playing a compromising title (we won’t judge you, but your friends might), here’s everything you need to know about Discord’s new activity tracker and how to set it up.
What can activity status show?
Discord is able to detect the use of different software, accounts, and games based on the linked accounts and your configuration. On PC, Discord is able to detect most games, regardless of whether they’re linked to Steam, Epic Games, or any other launcher. Players who have linked their Xbox or PlayStation accounts to enjoy voice chat on those platforms will also see their activity displayed on their profile. The same goes for music or video streaming platforms, such as Spotify, Crunchyroll or Amazon Music. All connections can be managed from a dedicated tab in Discord's user settings.
However, video game activity is now more detailed than ever. In addition to displaying the current session count in real time, the box also indicates whether it is a first game, a return to the game or even a marathon.
By opening the profile, it is even possible to follow the game history on the Last 30 days. These features are sure to please the less prudish players, but some will undoubtedly prefer to keep a bit of confidentiality. To do this, here are the steps to follow.
How to hide your activity?
The “Games” tab in Discord settings offers different privacy options to adjust the information shared on the profile. It is possible to adjust the titles one by one, or simply disable all sharing.
Similar options are available in the “Connections” tab to manage third-party accounts like Spotify and others. As always, the discussion platform pushes customization to the limit by also offering options specific to each server. It is therefore up to everyone to establish what he or she wants to appear on his or her profile.
