F1: trailer in “Grand Prix” mode for the film with Brad Pitt

Joseph Kosinski is in the paddock before the start of his race for the greenbacks this summer. Three years after the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the second installment of the adventures of the pilot played by Tom Cruise, the director is teaming up with Brad Pitt for what promises to be one of the summer events in theaters. The director is expected to deliver, and he won't be able to count on the reputation of a famous franchise to make money... unless. He will immortalize the world of motor racing, from Formula 1 alongside a race car driver to... retirement and his protégé.

The story follows Sonny Hayes, the most promising athlete of the 90s until a terrible accident. Thirty years later, having become an independent driver, he is contacted by a former teammate to help him save his F1 team from the brink of bankruptcy. Ruben (Javier Bardem) will convince Sonny to make his big comeback on the racetrack and prove that he is the best driver in the world. His teammate and protégé will be a certain Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a raw talent, but one that knows no bounds. Does this remind you of anyone? Kosinski is once again banking on the figure of the mentor and the hothead to make the audience dream. This was already the dynamic at the epicenter of Top Gun: Maverick, which saw the pilot played by Tom Cruise confronted with the ghosts of his past in the form of his late teammate's son.

Larger than life!

As he had been keen to immortalize real fighter jets in Maverick, Joseph Kosinski really confided the steering wheel of racing cars to its main actors. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris drove a modified F2 car to look like an F1 car. He even drove it on the legendary Silverstone track. That's not all, the fictional Apex GP team, for which Sonny Hayes competes in the film, was seen on the circuit grid alongside real F1 teams. Scenes were filmed during the spectator halftime in July 2023.

The Apple Originals film is already widely promoted as a technical and technological feat, it uses a tiny mobile camera and in 6K to best immortalize the action of this kind of production. Just as Maverick redefined the way planes are filmed in cinema, F1 could mark a turning point for the world of car films and more broadly for the chase in roaring vehicles. See you in theaters on June 25th. The film is distributed by Warner Bros. Brad Pitt and Jerry Bruckheimer are producing alongside a racing star: Lewis Hamilton. The release of this trailer comes as the driver will be competing in his first race with Ferrari this weekend in Melbourne. A sense of timing.
