Google adds PC games in Play Games and offers all Android games on PC

The PC has been Google's playground since 2022, with the launch of the Play Games service on Windows. Until now, it was about being able to play Android games on a computer, but the search engine is taking it a step further by taking the service out of beta status, and especially by adding PC games. Several major titles are offered in the catalog, including Genshin Impact, Sonic Rumble and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad.

Android games on PC, PC games on Play Games

We are still a long way from the richness of a Steam, or even an Epic Games Store obviously. But seeing Google launch into the PC gaming business validates the platform's strong position in this strategic area! To give developers who are hesitant to get started a foothold, Google will offer them dedicated tools to, for example, easily integrate in-app purchases. Distrust is in order: the company doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to gaming, just look at the Stadia fiasco.

The Google Play Games service is also strengthening its selection of Android games to play on PC... by integrating all of the Android games from the Play Store! Obviously, not all of these games are optimized for Windows, which is why Google has come up with simplified access to settings and the ability to add virtual joysticks to the screen to simulate touch. This new feature will be available later this month.

Google is also planning an "optimized" badge for games that are fully compatible with PC. A "playable" badge will indicate to the player that the title meets the minimum standards for PC. And for "untested" games, you'll have to take your chance and hope for the best.
