Google Calendar is one of the most widely used planning tools in the world. But a recent change in its display may have some users looking for alternatives. By replacing the "Plan" display with "Day" when selecting a date in the month view, Google has triggered a wave of criticism.
A change not well-received by Google Calendar users
Google Calendar offers several display modes on mobile: Schedule, Day, 3 Days, Week, and Month. Until recently, selecting a date in the month view displayed a drop-down events for the following days in "Planning" mode. This allowed you to have a quick overview of upcoming events.
Since an update day view rolled out at the end of February (version 2025.09.1-732918122), this action redirects to the "Day" view, a more rigid format that forces the user to view their appointments day by day. Many users are expressing their frustration on the Google forums, going so far as to threaten to switch to another calendar app if this change isn't reversed.
An Unsatisfying Alternative
For those who miss the old view, a temporary solution exists. One user discovered that selecting today's date in the top left corner of the "Day" view immediately switches Google Calendar to the "Schedule" view. While this restores the previous experience, it adds an extra step, which annoys many users accustomed to smoother navigation.
