Google Assistant loses these 7 features, the transition to Gemini is underway

Google Assistant could disappear from our smartphones this year, replaced by Gemini. The Mountain View firm is working on such a transition, which could also affect other connected devices, including speakers and screens, a little later. As a result, the company is allocating a lot of resources to Gemini and is starting to drop support for certain features for Google Assistant.

In this case, Google has announced that seven features will soon be removed from its Assistant, without announcing an exact date. We are told that if a user tries to use one of these functions, they may receive a notification telling them that this option will no longer be available.

Google Assistant is becoming a little less complete

Here is the list of Google Assistant functions that will be evaporate in the near future:

  • Add photos to favorites, share them, or ask where and when they were taken via voice request.
  • Change photo frame or mood screen settings with your voice.
  • Translate a live conversation with someone who doesn't speak your language using interpreter mode. Translating a word or phrase from one language to another will still work.
  • Receive birthday reminder notifications as part of your routines.
  • Ask to schedule or Listen to scheduled Family Bell announcements.
  • Receive daily updates, such as “Send me the weather every day”.
  • Use Google Assistant on car accessories with a Bluetooth connection or an auxiliary jack.

Google defends the removal of these features, ensuring that they are rarely used. For some of them, it will still be possible to use the interface of a device with a screen as an alternative, only compatibility with voice query will be removed. For others, we can program routines as a substitute.

In any case, we are witnessing the end of an era, with Gemini gradually encroaching on Google Assistant. The Hey Google invocation keyword should soon give way to Hey Gemini.
