Last year, Google improved the video playback experience on Google Drive by reducing loading times and integrating a more modern interface on the desktop version. Now, it seems that the company wants to offer the same redesign to Android users. At least, that's what the code in the latest version of the app suggests.
A new video player for Google Drive on Android
The Google Drive app for Android could soon adopt a video player inspired by of Material Design 3, already introduced on the desktop version. This update would simplify access to playback controls.

In the latest version of the application (2.25.110.0), lines of code suggest the upcoming arrival of this new interface. Although it's not yet available to users, Android Authority managed to manually enable it to see the changes. Specifically, the player keeps a progress bar at the bottom of the screen, but reorganizes the playback controls. Now, the play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind buttons no longer float over the video, but are placed just below it.
Better access to playback settings
Another notable point of this new interface: much easier access to the settings button. Below the playback buttons, there are also clearly displayed options for enabling subtitles, changing playback speed, accessing settings, and switching to full screen. These controls were previously relegated to the bottom right corner, below the progress bar, which could make them difficult to access. This is no longer the case.
For now, this redesign of the Google Drive video player for Android has not yet been rolled out to the general public. But it is likely to arrive in a future update of the application. It remains to be seen find out when Google will make its launch official.
