Is Rockstar Games preparing a revolution for the future of its GTA license and more particularly for GTA6 and the new version of GTA Online? According to DigiDay media, relayed by our colleagues at Rockstar Mag’, Rockstar Games has reportedly begun discussions with the main creators of Fortnite, Roblox and the Grand Theft Auto universe. Theft Auto Online to consider creating a very similar "creative" game mode in the next version of their highly anticipated game.

GTA Online V2: a creator program similar to Fortnite and Roblox?

Roblox and Fornite both offer a creator program that allows players to earn money thanks to their creations in these games. It is a step closer to the Metaverse, this world halfway between the real and the virtual that manifests itself in several ways. Whether it is precisely by allowing players to create content in the game. But also by linking elements of the real world (such as brands, events with very real artists, etc.) in the virtual world of the game.

Since 2018, Rockstar Games has started to include real elements in its fictional and satirical universe Grand Theft Auto. With the release of the "White Nights and Black Market" update, several DJs such as Tale of Us, Black Madonna, Solomun and Dixon were entitled to their real avatar in the game to come and mix and perform virtual concerts in the nightclubs of Los Santos.

In 2021, with the release of the "The Contract" update, Rockstar went even further by integrating the legendary rapper Dr Dre into GTA Online, offering players a truly innovative making-of on the creation of six new unreleased songs that were made exclusively for GTA Online.

With the release of GTA 6, still expected for this fall 2025, and the new version of GTA Online, Rockstar Games could take another step into the Metaverse and offer a creator program allowing players to create their own experiences and include their trademarks and even brands that sponsor them. According to the media Digiday, which obtained its information from three industry insiders, Rockstar Games would be planning to add a creative mode in its next online game.

Apparently, the "star firm" would have spoken with the main creators of Fortnite, Roblox and GTA Online to get feedback. Rockstar would have the ambition to create a creation platform allowing to create its own universes, in order to create the largest sandbox ever made to date. This new game mode would allow creating experiences, giving creators the ability to modify the environment and game assets in order to introduce their own intellectual property and possibly the brands they sponsor.

For the moment, Digiday does not have any additional information and they still do not know by what means and under what conditions this will be possible. But, as Rockstar Mag’ points out, it would make sense and would explain why Rockstar Games bought the CFX project, the creators of FIVEM and REDM, in 2023.

With these new possibilities, Rockstar Games could design one of the most ambitious multiplayer games in the industry, with an improved version of GTA Online, similar to the one we currently know since 2013. Then, a GTA RP version, inspired by the famous successful game mode that is still a hit today on Twitch. And offer in addition to that, a creative mode that would make the possibilities almost infinite on GTA6 and V2 of GTA Online.
