Is this time finally the right one for Half-Life 3? More than 20 years after the release of the second installment (in 2004), it seems that Valve is at the end of development on the third game and that an announcement is imminent. At least that's what Gabe Follower claims in his latest YouTube video.
Half Life 3: The Final Phase of Development Has Begun
In 1998 and 2004, Valve made its mark on the video game industry and the history of FPS games with the two installments in the Half Life series. These games featured the adventures of Gordon Freeman, a researcher at the Anomalous Materials Laboratory at the Black Mesa Research Center. The Half Life games are considered by many gamers and experts to be among the best FPS games in the history of video games. And fans have been waiting for the sequel with the final outcome for over 20 years.
After many rumors and false hopes, it seems that Half Life 3 is really in production. According to Gabe Follower, the game is even in its final phase of development with all the optimization, upcalling, improvement of NPCs and their AI. The game's development is said to be so advanced that the announcement could be made in the coming weeks and a fairly quick release is expected.
Naturally, all eyes are now on the fast-approaching Summer Game Fest (it will be in early June, in Los Angeles). Everything suggests that this would be the ideal time to announce the big return of Half Life. Still according to Gabe Follower, this new single-player Half Life game would be called "HLX". For the moment, we don't have any more information, except that the first Play Test sessions have already been started.
A few years ago, fans were able to discover Half Life Alyx, a new VR version of the game, still considered by many players and professionals as one of the best virtual reality experiences.
