Here is an Xbox controller for players jealous of the PS5

When we say that we need to put an end to the console war, this is not the kind of solution that we imagine. However, here we are Hyperkin is preparing to market a copy of the PS5 controller for Xbox players. In 2023, the American manufacturer has already tried to offer a “PlayStationesque” controller to Microsoft aficionados. The first Hyperkin Competitor simply copied the placement of the joysticks and the shape of the shell, but the latest version unveiled at CES 2025 pushes the imitation effort even further. Perhaps too far, even.

The product announcement trailer does not hesitate to to emphasize the most striking details. The directional cross seems to come from a real DualSense, the texture of the joysticks is identical, and the same goes for the curvature of the triggers. From the front, the controller even sports the black and white tones characteristic of the PS5 generation, enough to make it a product on the edge of legality. On the networks, many Internet users are wondering how such a peripheral can exist. “Wait, this is not one of those parody videos??? It’s just a PS5 controller with an Xbox logo” can be read in a comment on YouTube.

The DualSense without its advantages

The Hyperkin Competitor will be available during the second quarter of 2025, a date and price still unknown. If this product is not banned by PlayStation by then, here is what players can expect in terms of features. First black point: it is a wired controller, like the vast majority of the manufacturer's accessories. This connection is likely to cool more than one buyer, but that's not all. It should be kept in mind that the Hyperkin Competitor only imitates the design of the DualSense. The adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and other flourishes specific to PlayStation 5 will obviously not be included.

Gamers will nevertheless be able to console themselves with some LED lighting on the sticks and buttons, as well as programmable paddles and buttons on the back of the controller. But even if this peripheral seems wacky and simplistic, it is nonetheless interesting. It is capable of filling a multitude of atypical profiles. PS5 players will notably be able to play on PC with a controller they are used to, while retaining the A/B/X/Y layout of the buttons on this platform. Other gamers may have exchanged their Sony console for a Microsoft machine and are looking to rediscover the sensations of their original controller. The Hyperkin Competitor is not there to please everyone, but to accommodate.
