Launched in April 2024 on Crunchyroll, the anime Kaiju No. 8, adapted from the manga by Naoya Matsumoto, quickly established itself as a real success. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have just officially announced the screening of the feature film Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon in French theaters, here's what you need to know.

As season 2 approaches, Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon promises to be the ideal event for fans of the series looking for a refresher. The feature film will recap the key events of the first season, laying the groundwork for the story to come. Viewers can still count on the broadcast of an exclusive episode, titled “Hoshina’s Day Off,” with the following synopsis:
“Defense Force soldiers rarely get a break, and peaceful days off are precious! After training relentlessly for so long, Reno has forgotten how to relax. He meets Hoshina, who seems to have plans. Iharu and Reno decide to tail their superior, and go from surprise to surprise!”

A limited release not to be missed
The recap film of Kaiju No. 8 and its exclusive episode will be released in theaters on Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18, 2025. Viewers should therefore mark this date on their calendars so as not to miss these two days of broadcasting. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment also specify that only screenings in Japanese with French subtitles will be offered on this occasion. No French version will be available.
In case of impediment during this limited screening In French theaters, fans will still be able to find the 12 episodes of season 1 of Kaiju No. 8 from the Crunchyroll catalog. Although the platform has not yet communicated on this subject, it is also likely that the feature film and its exclusive episode will join the catalog ahead of season 2, scheduled for next July.
