The Cybertruck continues to cause harm to Tesla and Elon Musk. After years of announcements, development, and rumors, the car was finally released at the end of November 2023. More than a year later, the commercial failure has been "proven," with fewer than 40,000 annual sales. The price of this car, which is definitely unlike any other, is also expected to drop in the coming months.
But when things already seem catastrophic, there's always a way to make things worse. Tesla found out this week. The automaker released a chilling press release this Thursday. The company is announcing a massive recall. A total of 46,000 Cybertrucks built between November 2023 and the end of February 2025 will return to the factory.
Tesla explains that this recall is caused by the bodywork. It simply threatens to fly off while driving. In its file, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the equivalent of the safety A road safety agency in the United States explains that the adhesive that holds this part of the bodywork together with the rest of the vehicle can "detach" from the structure.
In this same file, we learn that Tesla has been aware of this problem for at least two months and that an internal investigation was opened in January. The manufacturer should be able to resolve this problem fairly quickly by using another adhesive for this part of the bodywork.
Already 8 Recalls
This new recall request adds to the long list of modifications already made by Tesla to its Cybertruck. The "revolutionary" vehicle In the words of Elon Musk, which was announced with great fanfare during a memorable press conference, will therefore remain in history as a major commercial and technical failure.
A disappointment that Tesla would have gladly done without. The brand is already in serious difficulty, with a stock price that is in free fall. Since the beginning of 2025, the stock has lost 41.50% of its value, at the time of writing. In order to put an end to the hemorrhage, Tesla should present new vehicles in a few months.
It must be said that Elon Musk's latest ideas for his car brand are still far from consensus. The South African businessman is betting big on autonomous cars and robotaxis, which, according to him, represent the future of the automobile. For now, this technology is still under development. It is also costing Tesla millions of dollars every month. Money that investors are increasingly less inclined to put into this high-risk project.
