Monster Hunter Wilds: All about the first Major Major

Monster Hunter Wilds: All about the first Major Major

Less than two months after its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds is already getting ready to receive a massive update. The additional content promised by Capcom will be officially released on April 4th and promises to strengthen the game's already very solid foundations. If you don't have the courage to catch up on the 15-minute presentation of the Monster Hunter Showcase broadcast this afternoon, here's everything you need to know about the patch coming next week.

The hunt for the Mizutsune is on

First seen in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on 3DS and Switch, the fearsome bubble leviathan will be the first additional monster to join the Forbidden Lands of Wilds. To unlock this new quest, players of rank 21 and above will need to go to the Scarlet Forest and speak to Kanya. The alpha variant of the Mizutsune will be automatically unlocked for hunters of rank 41 and above.

But this monster is actually just the starter in a buffet of new features that promises to be appetizing. Seasoned hunters looking for a bit more of a challenge can measure themselves against the supreme Rey Dau Alpha once they reach rank 50. Capcom is touting this new variant as truly formidable, but it remains to be seen whether this will be the case with the controller in hand.

Arena Quests and Challenge Quests will also be introduced to create a bit of competition between hunters. These quests, playable by up to two players, will be timed and require specific equipment to establish a ranking of the best hunters around the world. Free Challenge quests will also be available for players who simply want to have fun in groups of four.

To top it all off, there will soon be no need to restart a game to face Zoh Shia again. The final monster of the main story will benefit from a dedicated quest accessible at level 50, and will drop new materials to forge new weapons and armor.

The Return of the Hub

Widely criticized for its lack of a multiplayer hub, an essential element of the franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds is already correcting the situation with the implementation of its own Hub Camp. Located on the outskirts of Suja Village, this new area will be accessible from hunter rank 16, after speaking to Tetsuzan in the village. There, players will be able to find the famous feline canteen (so they never forget to eat before setting off on a quest), as well as the new record board, and the Clan Office, which will be moved from the Windswept Plains once the Hub Camp is unlocked.

This community space will also house a few mini-games, such as the irreplaceable arm wrestling duel, or a new barrel bowling activity. Capcom also reveals the existence of seasonal festivals, which will modify the appearance of the Hub and the meals offered there throughout the year. The first festivities will take place from April 30 to May 21, 2025, with the “Festival of Concord: Dance of Flowers.” During this occasion, players will also be able to obtain limited equipment, emotes, decorations, and much more. The live-service recipe for this new Monster Hunter seems well-crafted.

No performance improvements, but…

Unfortunately, Capcom hasn't mentioned any upcoming optimization efforts for the game. PC players will have to deal with the current state of the title for some time. The studio's press release, however, refers to another update planned for May, "including a collaboration with another Capcom title, a feature allowing you to see captured endemic life specimens, and a few other adjustments." We can only hope that these adjustments concern the game's performance.

The showcase, however, ends with the news that all veteran players have been eagerly awaiting: the famous Lagiacrus from Monster Hunter Tri will make its grand return in the second content update, scheduled for this summer. Capcom will meet us in the coming months to learn more about these future additions.
