Do you remember MultiVersus? In July 2022, the Warner Bros group and the Player First Games studio unveiled an ambitious free-to-play game, with the aim of establishing itself in the world of platform fighters. Behind this title lies a genre that players know above all as Smash-like. The famous Nintendo title introduced a new style of fighting game, which is now very popular with gamers. MultiVersus then entered the market with the promise of offering an experience inspired by it, but with a few specificities.
Focused on 2v2 combat, the gameplay offered to equip different synergy skills depending on the characters chosen, in order to establish a combat strategy to face other duos. This innovative formula did not fail to intrigue players. Shortly after its beta launch, the fighting game even managed to surpass Elden Ring in terms of downloads. However, MultiVersus seemed to lack polish. To ensure the game's long-term success, the studio Player First Games decided to close the servers in early 2023 for a major overhaul.
A year later, MultiVersus is ready to make its return under Unreal Engine 5 with a bunch of new features. We were able to discover the game's revival in preview and noticed many welcome changes. Since the title will be launched in the coming hours, here is everything you need to know about this new full version of the title.
A first free battle pass
If you took part in the battle during the first test phase in 2022 and 2023, know that Player First Games has a nice surprise in store for you. To thank veteran players for their support, the studio will be offering the first battle pass to all players who have tried MultiVersus in the past. Rigorous players who complete this premium path will collect enough in-game currency to enjoy the next battle pass for free, and so on. This is great news for gamers who love 100% free-to-play. This pass also guarantees instant access to one of the game's new characters.
Three new characters under the sign of villains
To celebrate its first season, MultiVersus is calling on the antagonists. As soon as the festivities launch today, the character roster will benefit from three new arrivals. Fighters will be able to take to the battlefield with the Joker, Jason Voorheese from Friday the 13th, or even a Banana Guard from Adventure Time. Battle Pass owners will have immediate access to Jason, while the other characters will be unlockable via in-game currency or microtransactions.
A more than welcome PvE mode
In addition to the usual online battles that MultiVersus already offered in its initial version, this launch also comes with a PvE mode. These Rifts missions allow players to train solo, while enjoying short scenarios narrated by the game's characters, all dubbed by actors. Not quite as much as the Subspace Emissary that Super Smash Bros players love, this addition offers new ways to enjoy MultiVersus with special powers and other gameplay tweaks. The mode will be constantly updated with free content, so what more could you ask for?
When will MultiVersus be available to play?
MultiVersus is back in service this Tuesday, May 28. For the launch of the festivities, Player First Games has planned a delayed schedule depending on the platforms. Console maintenance ended at 1 p.m. (French time) while the PC version of the title will be in maintenance until 7 p.m. (French time). Today only, the server will be joined in waves to avoid any overload. The official Twitter account of MultiVersus allows you to follow the deployment of these entries live.
