Netflix cancels the release of these 6 video game productions

Netflix's ambitions in the world of video games will be revised downwards. After more than two years of success, the company is backtracking on the line-up of games that were supposed to be released on its platform in 2025. Among the cancellations is the Lord of the Rings game called Tales of the Shire, which was particularly anticipated by subscribers.

Its availability on mobile via Netflix was announced last June, when the company was taking off in video games. After a year rich in releases, investments and downloads – We remember the success of the remastered GTA trilogy - the red N had deployed the big means to keep its subscribers in suspense in the long term. Moreover, here is the list of the 6 games whose release on Netflix has just been canceled:

  • Lab Rat
  • Don’t Starve Together
  • Rotwood
  • Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game
  • Thirsty Suitors
  • Compass Point: West

This does not change anything for the other platforms

While they are no longer planned for a mobile release via the platform, it is good to note that their release on console and/or PC is maintained. Netflix’s decision has nothing to do with have with difficulties within the development studios. A spokesperson for the company told the media What’s On Netflix:

The company therefore does not justify financial difficulties, but rather a readjustment of its line-up in relation to the consumption habits of players on its platform. It should be remembered that all of the games on Netflix are available at no extra cost to any subscriber. They do not bring in money for the company, but can potentially encourage players to take out a subscription if this is not already the case, or to maintain it.

Netflix is navigating blindly

A few titles had already disappeared from the catalog before this event and others had also been canceled. The list of available games tends to change from one month to the next without the information being clearly or officially communicated. We feel that Netflix is still feeling its way in this environment that was foreign to it just a few years ago. Despite All in all, it seems that the firm is not abandoning its idea of bringing games to PC via its subscriptions, a function currently being tested in a few countries and for a selection of hand-picked titles.
