Does the sale of Micromania by its parent company GameStop endanger physical video games in France? No, states a press release from the brand. Specialized points of sale will continue to operate throughout France while waiting for a buyer to make an offer.
Good news for PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch players attached to the physical format. If you own the hybrid console and prefer to buy your video games directly on the eShop, be aware that a small upheaval will also occur in the coming weeks. Nintendo announces the end of the Gold Points system on Switch.
Nintendo's Gold Points system will disappear in March
Nintendo announces that you will no longer be able to obtain My Nintendo Gold Points thanks to your purchases on the eShop from March 24th. “Gold Points are valid for 12 months from the day they are obtained and always expire at the end of the last month. Gold Points earned up to and including March 24 can be used on the Nintendo eShop to obtain discounts until they expire, even after the end of the distribution of Gold Points.», specifies the Kyoto firm.
Nintendo is therefore not ending its system too abruptly, although this is a major change for players. The purchase of physical games released on or before March 24, 2025 still gives the right to Gold Points, even if the title in question is purchased after this date. Of course, you shouldn't wait too long to benefit from it. "Gold Points can be earned by registering a game card for a period of two years from the original release date of a title in Europe," Nintendo said in its press release.
Note that pre-orders of digital games from the Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo website made until March 24, 2025 still give Gold Points.
As a reminder, an eligible game or digital content purchase on the eShop allows you to recover up to 5% of the amount spent in Gold Points. One point is worth one cent. You can then use these for your digital purchases in the online store. So you don't have much time left to try to accumulate Gold Points to use them on the Nintendo eShop, even after the date of March 24, 2025. Time to stock up on Nintendo Switch 2?
