Nintendo removes this advantage on Switch

The Nintendo Switch has many advantages. One of them will soon disappear for good. In a press release, Nintendo announces the end of Gold Points, this resource that you obtain thanks to the investments you make with any Nintendo transaction. Purchasing games, expansions or game cards earns you a certain number of Gold Points, which you can then use to unlock other advantages.

Unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye to the functionality which now has a death date: March 25th. Nintendo announces that it will simply be impossible for players to obtain gold points after this date, whether with physical or digital purchases via the Nintendo Switch eShop. So you still have one month to take advantage of it.

One more month to earn points

Nintendo thanks its players in its press release which is intended to be rather definitive and succinct. If the date of March 25th is fixed, it means different things for Nintendo Switch owners. You will be able to continue to earn points for any pre-order or game purchase up to and including March 24, even if the order is processed later or the game in question is released after March 25.

The same applies to physical game cards that you can find at your local supermarket retailers or specialty stores. All prepaid cards registered before March 25 are eligible to receive gold points.

What to do with your gold points?

If you have gold points after March 25, you will have a period of 12 months to use them. As a reminder, gold points allow you to access price reductions on digital purchases from the Nintendo eShop. They must therefore be used before paying for your purchases. On the Nintendo website, it is possible to see the conversion rate of points into real money.

Be careful though, it is not possible to transfer the amount converted from gold points to your bank account. If you do not use them, they will automatically expire 12 months after their date of obtaining. This is obviously a way for Nintendo to ensure additional purchases through its platform, but if you are already a regular user of digital content, do not hesitate to exploit the functionality to the fullest.
