If you're one of the players waiting for the Nintendo Switch 2 for the end of this year, or at worst the beginning of the next, you're going to have to revise your ambitions downwards. Indeed, new information leads us towards the hypothesis that the console will not be launched before April 2025 at the earliest. These are the estimates of the developers themselves, whose thoughts were shared in a podcast by GamesIndustry.biz.
The latest episode of the Microcast, hosted by journalist Chris Dring, is mostly about Krafton's acquisition of Tango Gameworks, the publisher of PUBG. But he does mention discussions he's had with several developers about the Nintendo Switch 2. According to them, the console isn't on track to launch yet. He explains:
“No developer I've spoken to expects it to launch in the current fiscal year. In fact, they've been told not to expect it to come out in the [current] fiscal year. Several of my interlocutors hope that it will be released in April or May, that is, at the beginning of next year, and not at the end.”
A wait that is being felt
For the moment, we therefore have nothing concrete to get our teeth into. The developers' estimates more or less agree with those of analysts, economists and experts in the field, so there are no major revelations. However, the studios are on the front line and can therefore better understand the state of the market. They receive the development kits in advance, which allow them to optimize their next releases in relation to the performance of the machine. According to rumors, the latter have already been on the way for several months.
All that is missing is official news from Nintendo. The manufacturer has already confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced and shown to the world before the end of the fiscal year. Many are hoping for a presentation at the Game Awards 2024 for a release in the following weeks. But Nintendo often has no use for collective events and manages its communication off the beaten track. So can we expect an announcement sooner than expected?
In the meantime, don't hesitate to check out our report on the console's main features, based on leaks, rumors and patents filed by Nintendo.
