The Nintendo Switch 2 is definitely the worst-kept secret in the video game industry. Rumors about the machine have been growing for several years now, so much so that the final stretch before its launch is littered with leaks of all kinds. Last week, the appearance of Switch 2-branded accessories on Chinese sales platforms provided a new glimpse of the long-awaited console. These products correspond to leaks of a 3D model that appeared last September, but is this the real mold of the Switch 2? It is not impossible that manufacturers have taken inspiration from the leaked model in the hope of getting a head start.
However, this was without taking into account the blunder of a company that went a little too far in promoting its new accessory. Manufacturer Satisfye has inadvertently shared a trailer for its new Zengrip 2. This object designed to improve the handling of the console in portable mode is presented on the machine itself, even before Nintendo has made its design official. The trailer was quickly deleted, but the image in question is already making headlines. the network tour and seems to confirm all the previous leaks.
Why change a winning team?
Unsurprisingly, the Kyoto firm intends to rely on the design of the original Switch which has already proven itself. Now that PC consoles like the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally are starting to dominate the market, Nintendo hopes to convince players by offering the best of both worlds. On the surface, the Nintendo Switch 2 seems almost inseparable from the previous console, except for a few details. As in the 3D model analyzed by Digital Foundry, the console has larger joycons with sticks, as well as a new button under the "Home Menu" button on the right joycon.
Once again, this could be a 3D-printed dummy console based on the model that appeared in September. But the repetition of this scenario leaves room for doubt. If all these leaks are true, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a console similar to the current generation, with proportions closer to machines like the Steam Deck. According to the latest news, the console will be almost 30cm wide compared to 24cm for the first Switch.
Nintendo still aims to present its new hardware by the end of the fiscal year, scheduled for next March. However, the broadcast of the Game Awards on the night of December 12-13 raises the hope of a revelation before the end of the year. Verdict in a few days.
