Nintendo Switch 2: no rushed announcement despite the leaks

The Nintendo Switch 2 will go down in history as the console that sparked the most leaks and debates before its launch. The myth surrounding this machine has been maintained for several years now, at a time when gamers were already dreaming of a mid-generation Switch Pro. This accumulation of hype and impatience ended up making this console one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry. The last few weeks have been punctuated by leaks of all kinds, mainly from accessory manufacturers. Initial articles published on Chinese sales platforms quickly motivated other manufacturers to unveil their products ahead of time.

3D models, mockups and other stolen photos have already given us a more than exhaustive overview of the Nintendo Switch 2 format. The presentation of videos and accessories for the console in the aisles of CES 2025 (spotted by our colleagues at Numerama) was the final blow in this rather surreal situation. Regardless of the context behind these early revelations, the Kyoto firm likely intends to stick to its guns. The announcement will take place on their terms and will not be precipitated by these leaks, because the Switch 2 is a special case.

As the big sister of the current Switch, the design of the new machine ultimately counts for very little. The games, interface and performance of this console will be the real surprises in the official trailer. But one question remains: will we have to wait much longer? We are confident that the announcement will happen before the end of March, but rumors of a January announcement are gaining momentum.

Retailers are getting ready

The proliferation of leaks is already serving as an indicator of the imminence of an official reveal, but the pace is accelerating. At CES, manufacturer Genki claims that the Switch 2 will be announced in the coming days for a release in April. While it is impossible to take them at their word, the January theory is more plausible than ever. Employees of the company GameStop (parent company of Micromania) have noticed the appearance of references stamped Switch 2 in their database.

This phenomenon is not isolated and also concerns the French brand Cultura, which is preparing the ground with the online launch of a Switch 2 page on its site. This is still empty, but the page code contains a description (certainly temporary) of the next console: Discover the Nintendo Switch 2 on Cultura.com: improved performance, new features and an even more immersive gaming experience for all gamers! Coming soon for pre-order.

Even though these elements point to an announcement that is more imminent than ever, the watchword remains patience. It is by weaving new theories day by day that the wait for the console seems ever more interminable. Who would have thought that a console could have such an impact on players and the industry before even being unveiled?
