Nvidia: the GPUs RTX 5060 point to their nose ... and it does not smell good

For several days now, we have seen a number of rumors emerging regarding Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti graphics cards. A few snippets of their alleged technical specifications have, for example, appeared online. Now, everything seems to indicate that the release of these components, positioned more at the entry level, is imminent.

As is often the case when talking about GPUs, the latest warning sign has emerged from the specialist site VideoCardz.com. These sleuths spotted a pre-built Acer Nitro N50 PC with an RTX 5060 on the French site EvoPC, where it was likely listed in error. The product in question has since been removed—but the conclusion is relatively clear. This minor oversight seems to indicate that third-party resellers are receiving the first listings from integrators, who themselves must have been tipped off by Nvidia. In other words, there's a good chance the release is imminent.

Some pretty disappointing spec sheet snippets

It remains to be seen what these cards will have in store. Nvidia hasn't yet communicated on this subject, but the EvoPC listing does give us a small clue: it potentially confirms that this card will only have a paltry 8 GB of VRAM — as much as the GTX 1080 released… almost ten years ago. Of course, technology has progressed considerably since then, and the latter's GDDR5X has given way to much faster GDDR7. But it's still a fairly light amount of RAM, and those who enjoy last-gen AAA games may feel cramped.

This interpretation is reinforced by the fairly limited performance gains of the other RTX 5000s. The RTX 5070, for example, is entitled to 12 GB of VRAM, but it doesn't impress with demanding high-resolution games.

As for the rest of the spec sheet, we have no choice but to rely on kopite7mini, a leaker known for his impressive reliability compared to the green stable. He claimed that the RTX 5060 would house 3840 CUDA cores, which represents a 25% increase. Pretty interesting... except that the TDP also jumped by about 30%, going from 115W to 150W. Oops.

A cursed generation

Ultimately, there's nothing in these leaks that particularly inspires optimism. It's actually quite the opposite; the generally rather advantageous performance/price ratio of the 60 series models doesn't seem to be there with this new generation. However, we'll have to wait for the official announcement and the first benchmarks to judge the merits of these GPUs. They may represent the last hope to save the Blackwell generation, which has been excessively disappointing so far, both in terms of raw performance and reliability.
