Are we heading towards the end of Xbox exclusives? That's what an Insider seems to imply, saying that Microsoft could completely change its strategy and do away with exclusives, even with Xbox's cult licenses.
Halo, Forza, Gears... soon on PlayStation?
Last year, Microsoft had already surprised everyone with a first step in its change of strategy. By publishing four previously exclusive games on PS5 and/or Nintendo Switch, the American firm showed that it wanted to evolve.
After Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded, we learned that the very recent Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle would arrive on PS5 in spring 2025. According to the latest rumors, the excellent Forza Horizon 5 should also arrive very soon. What if all Xbox exclusives did the same?
According to Jez Corden, a renowned journalist and insider in the video game industry, and especially around Microsoft, the latter confirmed that the Redmond firm “will no longer have any exclusives in the future. Everything is a limited-time exclusive, at most”.
A statement that has caused quite a reaction and many players, intrigued, are then wondering why don't Microsoft and Xbox communicate in a clear and transparent manner? Something to to which Jez retorts: "That's because they don't want to impose it on teams that aren't yet prepared for simultaneous development on multiple platforms. But the days when Xbox had permanent exclusives are over."
So, there's a good chance that in the coming years Microsoft will radically change its strategy, allowing you to enjoy all "Xbox Game Studios" productions Day One, at no additional cost in its Game Pass. And allowing players on external platforms to enjoy it by paying a high price.
For its part, Sony seems more hostile to this idea, although the latest rumors suggest that LEGO Horizon Adventures could arrive very soon on Xbox. To be continued!
