"One of their best live-action remakes": the first opinions on Snow White fell

“Pure Disney magic”. Since the exceptional screening of Snow White in Los Angeles, many lucky people who were able to discover the film have been sharing their opinions on social media. While the press has had little or no access to Marc Webb's film so far, influencers and social media personalities have been invited to briefly share their feelings to give viewers the desire to discover this live-action remake that has caused a lot of ink to flow. Between the controversial choice Despite relying on CGI dwarves and the antagonistic positions of Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the latest addition to the Disney stable is not getting off to a good start to its film career. According to The Hollywood Reporter's predictions, Snow White is expected to generate $53 million in revenue at the North American box office. These are fairly modest results, the weakest since Dumbo in 2019.

But will the controversies get the better of the project? The first reviews, although mostly provided by web personalities, allow us to take the temperature two days before the release of Snow White in French cinemas. The least we can say is that it is particularly surprising.

According to Ash Crossan of ScreenRant, Rachel Zegler comes out with honors. If her haircut has been the object of mockery, the actress would have nothing to envy of the interpreters of the other emblematic Disney princesses. “Despite the bob (cut) that stands out, Snow White is simply charming. The message is clear, the creatures are adorable, and Rachel Zegler and her captivating voice are breathtaking. I almost shed a tear, and I have never cried in my life.

Disney is finally doing a good remake

A sentiment shared by Skyler Shuler of Disinder, who states in a quote spotted by The Hollywood Reporter: “I was worried, but let me tell you, Snow White is pure Disney magic. This is going to end up being people's favorite remake... if you liked Aladdin or Cinderella, you'll be happy.

Finally, on the official account, We Love Physical Media wrote: “Not a fan of Zegler or Gadot, but man... this is really good. I think this one is going to surprise people. It's in my Top 5 Disney live-action remakes. Go see it!”. Even Variety seems to have been seduced by the proposition. Katcy Stephan said on social media: “Rachel Zegler is a supernova. She embodies the grace, the tender nature of the original Disney princesses.” She adds that there is a love story, even though this part promised to be relegated to the background.

Unanimous reviews?

While enthusiasm is the order of the day for most of the spectators at this exceptional screening, not everyone agrees that Marc Webb's film is a resounding success. This is the case for Carl Kaka, who writes for the blog Future Force “Rachel Zegler is a bad Snow White, the changes to the story and lyrics are horrible, and some of the special effects aren't that special. The film doesn't work for me. A great shame.” We'll probably have to wait until Wednesday morning to discover the reviews of the film, which is expected to kick off the blockbuster season. The film is due to be released in theaters on March 19 in France, a few days before its release in the United States.
