Since its launch in November, the PS5 Pro has achieved very good figures, beyond Sony's expectations, even exceeding the sales figures of the PS4 Pro during its launch period. A trend that was confirmed a month later, in mid-December, since we learned that in November, 26% of PS5s sold in Europe were PS5 Pros, 19% in the USA and worldwide, in this month alone, PS5 Pro sales represented 63% of PS5 sales.
Thus, despite a crazy price (800 euros) and a console sold in kit form, without its disc player and without its vertical support (totaling a price of 950 euros), the Sony console managed to achieve an excellent start. Unfortunately for Sony, the year 2025 seems to start on a very different basis.
The PS5 Pro is starting at stagnate and lose ground to the PS4 Pro
According to analyst Mat Piscatella, PS5 Pro sales are starting to seriously slow down and even lag behind those of the PS4 Pro over the same period, at least in the United States. After a study carried out with Circana data, the analyst confirmed the excellent start of the console, before a sharp slowdown in sales on American soil.
In January 2025, hardware spending would have fallen by 45% compared to the previous year in the United States. The analyst specifies, however, that the entire hardware industry is affected by this decline in double digits in the USA in this first month of the year. PS5s experienced a drop of 38%, while Xboxes experienced a drop of 50% and Switches of 53%. This is undoubtedly explained by the anticipation around the Nintendo Switch 2.
A few days ago, Sony confirmed that the PS5 had just crossed the 75 million unit mark, which is slightly less good than the PS4 at the same time. Thus, PS5 Pro sales would be, according to the analyst, lagging behind sales of the PS4 Pro, even if it remains quite tricky to compare given Sony has not disclosed sales details.
