A little over a month and a half after the release of the PS5 Pro, what conclusions can we really draw from it? For the moment, it is clear that the feedback seems unanimous and not necessarily positive. It is not a bad console, far from it. But the difference is so minimal between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro, even in terms of game optimization, that professionals have difficulty finding any real interest in it, especially at 800 euros.
Worse still, many games suffer from catastrophic optimization, such as Silent Hill 2 to name just one when the machine was launched. Even if patches are generally quickly implemented to correct the problems, this shows a serious problem concerning “the most powerful video game console in the world”. Thus, on the technical side, the results are far from positive. We now hope that this PS5 Pro will show its full potential with the first games that will have been developed on the latter, because as far as optimizing old games is concerned, it is far, very far from being convincing.
However, on the players' side, Sony seems to have succeeded in its bet. We learned a few days after the console's release that sales were rather satisfactory. A month and a half later, this observation is still the same with some rather interesting initial figures.
The PS5 Pro in Sony's expectations
The first sales figures have been released for the PS5 Pro for the month of November 2024. We learn that of all PS5 consoles sold in the United States last month, 19% were PS5 Pros. In Europe, it's even better, since of all PS5 sales, 26% were PS5 Pros. We're not even talking about Japan, a country where Sony's new console is a real hit since last month, PS5 Pros represented 63% of PS5 sales.
As at its launch, these good figures are nevertheless below the sales of the PS4 Pro in 2016. However, the PS5 Pro costs twice as much as the PS4 Pro at the time, so this is still very reasonable and sales should probably take off again this month with the end-of-year holidays.
