Qualcomm unveils its new snapdragon for PC portable consoles

The PC handheld console market continues to welcome new, ever more powerful machines that are capable of overshadowing the industry pioneer, the Steam Deck. Lenovo, with its Legion Go, MSI, Acer, Valve, and others, have been competing for months now.

Qualcomm, for its part, is doing more than just taking advantage of the explosion in the PC handheld console market thanks to its Snapdragon processors dedicated to these machines. The American company, more than ever engaged in the race to power, has just introduced its new Snapdragon G series of processors.

Qualcomm presents its new Snapdragon processors and related portable consoles

Qualcomm has just introduced the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2 and G1 Gen 2. The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 supports Lumen technology, a fully dynamic global illumination and reflection system in Unreal Engine 5 intended for next-gen consoles. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 offers 30% faster CPU performance and 28% higher GPU performance. Enough to satisfy gamers looking for power. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 7 is supported by this new chip.

The Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 can run native and cloud gaming at 144 fps. It offers 2.3x CPU performance and 3.8x GPU capabilities compared to the Snapdragon G2 Gen 1. Note that the processor supports Wi-Fi 7 for a fast and stable connection.

The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is primarily aimed at the general public. It can still run games up to 1080p at 120 fps. On the other hand, you have to make do with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 with this processor (the other chips support Bluetooth 5.3).

"The Snapdragon G series gives gamers the option to choose whether to play games on the cloud, on console, on Android, or on PC while they're on the go. Starting this quarter, OEMs like Ayaneo, One ONEXSUGAR, and Retroid Pocket will offer portable gaming consoles powered by the new Snapdragon G," Qualcomm explains in its press release official.

The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 powers Ayaneo's new handheld console, the Pocket S2. ONEXSUGAR has just presented the Sugar 1, its new dual-screen Android handheld console with the same chip at GDC 2025. The Retroid Pocket S2 features the G1 Gen 2. You can already pre-order the machine before its release scheduled for next April.
