The release of the next Nintendo console is enough to make the whole world boil. As the months and weeks go by, the information about it becomes more precise. Its supposed release date was recently mentioned by the developers themselves, and it is the hot topic of the moment. However, it risks being upstaged by another extremely important point: its price.
Indeed, new rumors have just emerged concerning the price at which the Nintendo Switch 2 will be marketed. According to information relayed by the Japanese media Kabutan, the console could cost the consumer a lot. Analyst Hideki Yasuda, who works for Toyo Securities, states that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be sold for under $500, this being the highest estimate. So there is a world in which a Switch could cost us as much as a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 be worth its price?
If we play the comparison game, that's about 66% more than the current Nintendo Switch cost when it launched 7 years ago ($300), and 42% more than the OLED version released 3 years ago ($349). In the meantime, we've suffered significant inflation, but is that enough to justify such a gap? Converting to euros, as well as adding the appropriate taxes, could push the maximum price of the console up to 550 euros. in our green lands.
This is the current price of the latest generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles. However, it is useless to recall that the Nintendo Switch 2 has an expected power much lower than these two “competing” models. Nothing today allows us to precisely estimate the performance of the next Nintendo console, but the manufacturer has never wanted to highlight this aspect, preferring its innovations in terms of ergonomics and use, or the development of family games.
A revelation before March 2025
Unfortunately, Nintendo has not yet announced anything official, so we can only be patient. The firm has promised to give us news by the end of the fiscal year, that is to say before the end of March 2025. The release window between April and the end of June is therefore more than credible. We now know that Nintendo does not usually announce its products long in advance and prefers to play on the general surprise.
