Samsung: an update transforms the bars of its into unusable objects!

A faulty firmware update is plunging thousands of Samsung soundbar owners into disarray. Since March 10, the date of the deployment of version v1020.7, many models, including the flagship HW-Q990D, have been completely unusable.

The Samsung forums and the r/Soundbars subreddit are flooded with testimonies from distraught users. All report the same catastrophic scenario: after installing the update, their devices refuse to function normally, remaining stuck on the eARC TV screen, without producing any sound or connecting to Wi-Fi.

A Situation Turning Nightmare

The scale of the problem is considerable. In addition to the HW-Q990D, the Q930D, Q800D, S801D, and Q700D series are also affected. Users can't even perform a factory reset, making the situation even more critical. For now, the company is offering customers to send their devices in for repair, an impractical and potentially expensive solution.

For those lucky enough whose device is not yet affected, caution is advised. It is strongly recommended to disable updates Automatic updates via the SmartThings app and disconnecting the soundbar from Wi-Fi. For users whose device is already affected, the only option seems to be to contact Samsung support. However, owners of out-of-warranty devices could face high repair costs, as evidenced by a Reddit user who received a bill for 300 euros for a circuit board replacement.

This mishap is a reminder of the importance of being cautious with automatic updates, even for devices that are seemingly insensitive, such as a soundbar. While waiting for a definitive solution from Samsung, owners of the brand's soundbars are urged to be extremely vigilant. We hope that the Korean giant will quickly deploy a patch, or at least offer free replacement devices to users affected by the bug.
