Sony announces a partnership with Discord for PlayStation

In a press release, Jim Ryan (CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment) has just announced some big news for the future of PlayStation that should delight gamers. The company will partner with Discord, one of the largest gamer chat networks, to implement it into its PlayStation console system starting next year.

We don't yet know what form this partnership will take, but Discord will be integrated into the PlayStation Network in one way or another. This partnership shouldn't only concern consoles since Jim Ryan also mentioned the mobile app. In order to make this partnership a reality, Sony made a minority investment in Discord's Series H fundraising, which is now at over $100 million raised.

The goal of this partnership will be to allow PlayStation players to communicate with each other more easily, even, and especially, when they are in a game. Jim Ryan did not specify, however, whether the feature will only arrive on PlayStation 5 or also on PlayStation 4. The exact date has not been communicated, but the feature is expected to arrive in early 2022. In the meantime, Jim Ryan advises players to stay alert as more information on this partnership should be given later this year.
