Sony plans to get out of PlayStation exclusives on Xbox next year

Sony plans to get out of PlayStation exclusives on Xbox next year

Are we witnessing the end of a struggle and a war of exclusivities that has been raging for more than 20 years with the arrival of Microsoft and Xbox on the video game console market in 2001? It would seem so.

This year, the American firm announced that it wanted to change its strategy by offering certain exclusives on competing consoles, namely the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch. After releasing four games (Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded), we learned that Microsoft plans to release other big titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle. Journalists/insiders even confirm that the Redmond firm intends to end exclusivities.

While Sony was rather categorical and did not want to port its games to Xbox, new rumors suggest that the Japanese manufacturer could also change its strategy next year.

PlayStation games on Xbox in 2025

Sony plans to get out of PlayStation exclusives on Xbox next year

A few hours ago, we learned through the media JustPlayIt that Sony was planning to port its latest LEGO Horizon Adventures game to Xbox Series X/S for the beginning of 2025, or even by the end of 2024. On social networks, it was the journalist and insider Jez Corden who announced that for its part, Microsoft intended to end exclusives by 2025.

No time to rest and let the pressure go down, since in a new report, Jez Corden confirms now that Sony is also considering porting more and more games that were previously exclusive to the PS5 to Xbox starting next year. This is indeed what the Windows Central journalist stated, claiming that his sources told him that there will be “more unannounced and previously PlayStation-exclusive games” coming to Xbox Series X|S next year.

At this time, we don't know which games will be affected by these ports. Furthermore, we don't know yet if Jez Corden is talking about first-party games like The Last Of Us, Uncharted, God of War or even Horizon, or if the latter is talking about games developed in partnership with third-party publishers like was the case for LEGO Horizon Adventures.

In any case, it is clear that the industry is evolving and that there is a very good chance that incredible games will finally be discovered by the greatest number of players who will no longer be limited by their support.
