Even if you haven't been following the news related to the livestream, you've probably heard about the Stream for Humanity event. This is a charity operation that took place on Twitch over the last 3 days, bringing together millions of viewers. The goal was to raise as much money as possible to donate to Doctors Without Borders, in a geopolitical context that is more than tense on all continents. A look back at this event in through 3 of its highlights.
26 streamers
Stream for Humanity is the very first edition (and for the moment the only one) of a charity project that has met with the expected success. It is an initiative led by the streamer Aminematue. This is not his first attempt at large-scale events since he was already the one who organized the All Stars Eleven football match against Spanish content creators. This is also not the first time that the influencer has committed his channel and his image to a humanitarian cause, as he is a regular at Zerator's Zevent.
The Stream for Humanity brought together no fewer than 26 French creators, among the most popular in the Twitchosphere. The line-up included Squeezie (5.2 million followers), Inoxtag (1.5 M), Michou (2.2 M), Gotaga (4.4 M) and Doigby (1.9 M). All were able to participate in the collective effort through their respective channels and join their communities to achieve the donation goals.
Once is not customary, we note only little female presence for this event. This is generally the case when we talk about events centered around the Twitch and YouTube platforms, although the content creators are just as present and engaged in their daily production. Stream for Humanity will have nevertheless called on Baghera Jones, Maghla, Trixi, Tatiana and Ava Mind.
3,505,356.15 euros
The primary goal of Stream for Humanity was to raise money for Doctors Without Borders in a limited time. It was therefore necessary to rely on special events, donation goals and other surprises to arrive at the result we know today. More than 3.5 million euros were raised raised over a period of three consecutive days.
This is much less than the 10,182,126 euros collected during Zevent 2023, the record for a charity project on French Twitch. The figures are still very high for a very first edition. Aminematue was the most lucrative with 890,000 euros collected solely through donations on his channel. Among the most important donors, we note the presence of Xavier Niel (5000€), Mastu (12000€), Samir Nasri (13000€) and Inoxtag (60000€).
4 countries
Since everything cannot be rosy, Stream for Humanity has received a certain number of criticisms in addition to having been acclaimed by Internet users. These concern the scope of action proposed by the association Doctors Without Borders, not global enough for many people. Indeed, the donations will be used to help victims of armed conflicts in 4 different countries: Palestine, Congo, Sudan and Lebanon.
We obviously note the absence of Ukraine, invaded by Russia for almost 3 years now, or Mayotte, which is crumbling under the damage caused by what the media calls "a civil war". Aminematue, however, reassured his viewers by declaring that other more specific initiatives will be organized in the coming months.
