PlayStation privileges for Call of Duty: it's over. After years of early access to exclusive content on Sony's console, it's Xbox players' turn to be pampered. Following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year, the Redmond firm intends to make the legendary FPS its new flagship. The presence of Call of Duty in the Game Pass had raised many concerns from competition authorities during the organization of the acquisition. Microsoft then had no choice but to part with the cloud gaming rights for the licenses obtained in order to mitigate any suspicion of monopoly.
Once these conditions were established and the transaction completed, the firm planned to include the first Activision Blizzard titles in the Game Pass in 2024. These promises were kept, since Diablo IV entered the catalog last March. As for Call of Duty, Xbox made official the inclusion of the next opus – Black Ops 6 – last May, even before its big summer conference. But in order to prevent players from getting impatient before October 24, the manufacturer has just organized a nice surprise for its subscribers.
Call of Duty in the Game Pass starting today
Even if the announcement of the July program for the Xbox Game Pass has already taken place, here is a big surprise guest making an appearance in the monthly selection. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is being added to the catalog starting this Wednesday, July 24. The title will be available on Xbox and PC, but will not yet be playable in the cloud since the partnership between Microsoft and Ubisoft has not yet been established.
This launch in the Game Pass is also accompanied by the deployment of the fifth season of the FPS. This includes two exclusive multiplayer maps, as well as new competitive modes, new rewards and much more.
This good news follows the increase and change of the different Xbox Game Pass formulas revealed last week. As a reminder, the Xbox Game Pass Console is no more (except for users who are still subscribed), and will soon be replaced by a new subscription without day one releases. Only PC players and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will keep their current benefits, albeit for a hefty price increase.
