While the iPhone 16 has only just been announced, eyes are already turning to the next generation of iPhones. We may already know what the iPhone 17 should look like thanks to new renderings.

The first images of the iPhone 17 Pro Max unveil a new design expected

Recently leaked renderings by leaker Sonny Dickson suggest a major change in the design of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, particularly in terms of the camera module. These images show an iPhone 17 Pro Max equipped with of a MagSafe case. The most notable change concerns the arrangement of the cameras on the back of the device. While the triangular arrangement of the lenses is retained, the LED flash, microphone and LiDAR sensor appear to have been moved to the right side, creating a rectangular bar similar to that of Google's Pixel smartphones.

This new design would not be exclusive to the Pro Max model. The iPhone 17 Pro and the new iPhone 17 Air, known for its thinness, would also adopt this configuration. Oddly enough, the standard iPhone 17 model would retain the current design, perhaps to better differentiate the premium range. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air should be entitled to a completely new design with a photo module very different from the other models in the series.

A welcome refresh after five years

This redesign comes five years after the iPhone's last major redesign with the iPhone 12. In addition to the new design, the iPhone 17 series is said to benefit from several notable improvements:

  • A 24-megapixel front-facing camera
  • The addition of a chamber cooling system steam
  • 120 Hz screens on all models

The renderings do not confirm the reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island, a feature highly anticipated by users. However, rumors persist about the use of a "metalens" technology for Face ID, which would reduce the size of the front components.

Although this information should be taken with a grain of salt, it is already generating enthusiasm among Apple fans. The leaks will probably continue until the official presentation, traditionally scheduled for September. Until then, we'll have to wait to find out if these changes will come to fruition and how Apple plans to renew the iPhone experience with this 17th generation.
