Apple is preparing a foldable iPhone for the coming months. The model would feature new technology to eliminate creases on the screen. The design would be inspired by what is already offered by Samsung with its Galaxy Z Fold.
For several years, foldable smartphones have been gaining ground in the mobile industry. Initially driven by Android brands, these devices attract thanks to their hybrid format between a smartphone and a tablet. However, one obstacle remains: the visible folds in the center of the screen are often criticized for their visual and mechanical impact.
Apple could well change the game as early as next year. According to a report published by Bloomberg, the Apple brand plans to launch a foldable iPhone equipped a liquid metal hinge. This component would be designed to provide a flatter screen surface and avoid the famous folds. Contrary to some recent leaks, the latter would not come from Samsung, but would be developed by Dongguan EonTec, an exclusive partner of Apple. The design of the future foldable iPhone would be similar to that of Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6. It would have a 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch internal screen, a size similar to that of an iPad mini. The liquid metal hinge, produced by Dongguan EonTec, would be one of the major new features. This material, both flexible and ultra-resistant, is composed of metal alloys capable of returning to their original shape after deformation. It would allow for a smoother opening of the device while limiting the appearance of visible creases.
Apple has not yet made anything official, but several credible analysts agree on a launch around 2026, or even early 2027 with the iPhone 18 range. The price would be ultra-premium, around $2,300, or about €2,130 at the current rate. This model would therefore clearly target the very high-end. Note that production may be limited initially. If the gamble is successful, this model could set a new standard that other manufacturers will clearly seek to imitate.
