The year 2024 was undoubtedly marked by Astro Bot, the PS5 exclusive and the new game from Team Asobi put everyone in agreement, in front of one of the highest rated games of the year and winning the famous "GOTY" (Game of the Year) at the Game Awards.

Thanks to this high-quality title, Team Asobi shows that platform games still have a bright future ahead of them. A feat that was not lacking to seduce Reggie Fils-Aimé, the iconic former CEO of Nintendo of America.

Nintendo almost surpassed in its field?

The former president of Nintendo says that Astro Bot almost surpassed Nintendo "to his own game".

Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Croc, ApeEscape, Psychonauts, Ratchet & Clank or even Spyro, there is no shortage of examples of platform games that dominated the late 90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, today, we can count on the fingers of one hand those that have survived and that remain, even today, dominant licenses in the video game industry.

Apart from Ratchet & Clank, most of the licenses no longer exist or have not really managed their comeback. Only Nintendo with its Mario seems to be time-tested and manages to chaining classics and successes over the course of the opus.

Thus, the release and immense success of Astro Bot (becoming the very first platform game to win a GOTY) are far from going unnoticed and bring much hope for the return of platform games.

So much so that Reggie Fils-Aimé, the former CEO of Nintendo, did not fail to react to praise the title of Nicolas Doucet's teams. Last night, Astro Bot won a new GOTY title at the New York Games Awards 2025 hosted by Reggie Fils-Aimé. At the time of the awards ceremony, the former CEO of Nintendo couldn't help but declare: "So I have to admit, Astro Bot almost outdid Nintendo at its own game", provoking quite a few positive reactions and laughs in the room.

All that's left is for Team Asobi and Nicolas Doucet's teams to hammer home the point and confirm this success with a second opus!
In the meantime, we clearly have the right to very good follow-up with regular free DLC. Since its release, Astro Bot has had the right to seven free levels and others should arrive soon.
