The Apple Watch could soon have eyes! According to the latest rumors, Apple's smartwatch could well be able to analyze the world around you directly from your wrist.

The next Apple Watch could integrate a smart camera

According to recent information from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Cupertino giant is considering equipping its future Apple Watch models with a feature surprising: a camera equipped with artificial intelligence.

This innovation, if it comes to fruition, would allow the Apple Watch to "see" the outside world and use AI to provide relevant information to its user. A perspective that paves the way for many possibilities, but which should not arrive for a few years.

Two different approaches depending on the model

According to Gurman's sources, Apple is working on two distinct configurations to integrate this camera. On standard models of the Apple Watch, the lens would be integrated into the screen, similar to the front cameras of iPhones. For the more robust Ultra version, the camera would be placed on the side of the watch, near the digital crown and the side button.

This difference in positioning is explained in particular by the space and usage constraints specific to each model. The Apple Watch Ultra, with its larger case, would offer more flexibility for pointing your wrist at the objects to be analyzed.

However, you shouldn't expect to be able to make FaceTime calls from your watch. The main function of this camera would be to power a visual intelligence system, capable of identifying and analyzing the objects it is pointed at.

This development is part of Apple's broader strategy to strengthen the AI capabilities of its devices. The company is particularly looking to develop its own artificial intelligence models to reduce its dependence on third-party technologies like ChatGPT or Google, even though it is currently struggling to catch up with its competitors in terms of AI.

Nevertheless, patience will be required for tech lovers. According to Gurman, these camera-equipped Apple Watches are not expected to see the light of day until 2027 at the earliest. Until then, Apple's plans could still evolve, and we will have to wait and see how this technology will concretely integrate into our daily lives.
