Garmin doesn't just make smartwatches or GPS devices: the company also produces clinical studies based on data collected by its products. The latest of its kind, conducted in collaboration with Harvard and Oxford Universities, aims to pinpoint the factors influencing well-being and happiness, no less!
What influences happiness?
The pilot study revealed that daily activity and "adequate" sleep are associated with increased happiness and reduced stress. Moments of greatest satisfaction are linked to social and cultural activities, meals, and interactions with loved ones. Another lesson: emotional stability varies with age, with older adults being more emotionally stable than younger ones. Scoop!
These are not exceptional discoveries: most of us instinctively know that sleeping well and doing a little physical activity do not harm morale and well-being. But despite Garmin absolutely wants to make sure of this and, above all, better understand the factors that influence happiness to better inform public policies.
This is only a pilot phase of the study, which will be extended to 10,000 participants worldwide. It was launched in June 2024, during which volunteers had to answer three questionnaires every day on their smartphone. A methodology that made it possible to analyze in real time the impact of physical activity, sleep, socialization and stress on well-being. All cross-referenced with data collected by Garmin watches.
